So my parking brake light came on while I was on the freeway today. The car slowed down and I was not able to turn it off until I exited and came to a complet’s stop. Then it behaved normally and did not come on again the rest of the time. I called our dealer service when I got home and was again told there are no parts for this recall yet. I am pretty frustrated and a little worried about how safe this vehicle is to drive.

The dealer’s response seemed rather irresponsible. The better response would be to have you come in and take a look at the cable. If there is obvious damage, then just fix it temporarily. Or, at least disconnect it. You can probably live with not having parking brake while waiting for the park. Much better than risking inadvertent activation.

How many miles are on your vehicle and when did you purchase it? I'm asking because I want to know if this is something that happens after so many miles or years, or if it is issue with certain installations. Also, could you take some images of the harness so those of us who want to, can compare your faulty harness with our own?

No, this is an image of my vehicle, but they are both blazer evs so it makes sense they would look the same, right?
I did not mean the same picture i meant it looks like the same crimping crush...compare that to pictures in posts #23 and #56. They are blazerEVs too...but the crush, if any, at the support point is quite different. Hence my supposition is that the wire harness in your car and the car in #22 may have been done by the same person in Arizpe !

About 6000 miles. Bought June 2024. I finally got through to the service manager at our local dealer. We are bringing the vehicle in tomorrow for a temporary fix — something about using a special tape and re-routing the cable harness — so it will be driveable until these Mythical parts arrive.

Where are you located and who is your dealer? I have not encountered any willingness to do a temporary fix here.

I wasn’t having any luck either until the parking brake came on while on the freeway. That and being a squeaky wheel. My daughter, her husband and the grandkids are arriving this weekend and that’s the car that can hold everyone. I spoke to the service manager. I think if you have actually experienced this issue they may be more willing to help you out. We’re taking it in tomorrow. I’ll let everyone know what happens.

Some picks would be nice, so we could have visuals on the issue :)

We took ours into the Dealer to have this looked at. We were told our harness was fine and looked like new. Well that was a damn lie, I just had the brakes lock up on me Tuesday afternoon. Both of my thumbs were dislocated, the ER never got my right thumb back in socket either. Now I need surgery.

I called the dealer when I got home and gave them hell for lying to me. They tried playing stupid so that turned me toward calling GM myself, the lady from GM got the dealer on a 3 way call with me. They tried giving her the run around while I was listening.

I want my car fixed but not by these lying people. They are supposed to come get it Monday morning along with a loaner. But, I got a call from them this morning saying sorry we can not give you a loaner because they don't have any. I asked then why did you tell the GM rep you did? Crickets and no direct answer, he realized I cought them lying again.
What am I supposed to do here? I need a car to get to work, I'm not renting one.
This isn't something that can be swept away, I'm not driving it when it's a death trap. I could have been rear ended and at highway speed that would have been bad. Should I just call my lawyer or what? I really want to go crack some skulls but that's my anger speaking.
Just call a lawyer. You should be easily able to find one that will work on contingent. Hold the company's feet to the fire!

Right on, yes the dealership knows what cable and where. Push them.

i saw the recall on chevy app and made appointment to take in. when i got there they did not have parts or instructions on how to fix. since then the emergency brake has come on twice while in a parking lot while backing up. hope they get the parts soon.

The backing up braking may be a feature that is over agressive if you have park assist turned on with braking switched on. I have mine on alert only.
Is the parking brake light coming on when this happens...if not then it is the park assist braking.

We took our Blazer in this morning. Fortunately the inspection showed no damage to the cable or harness, so it’s a mystery why the parking brake engaged a few days ago. They did say there are some clips that need replacing, but they can’t get the parts for at least a week. It appears that it is safe to drive however. By the way, we have also had the issue of the parking brake engaging while backing up. There it’s easy to turn it off and it stays on. I turned off park assist quite awhile ago, way too aggressive.

Got mine back today, several modules had never been updated and the wiring harness loom was rubbed through and had bare wires grounding out on the back left side.
This needs to be changed or it will just keep happening. The harness needs to be longer so that those wires can be rerouted way up higher. This was a dumb decision on GM's part.
I may just go ahead and wrap that wiring in bear bond to keep it safe. The loom is just thin plastic that can't protect anything from abrasion long term.

In case it is possible a couple of pictures of your work taping the harness might help those of us who on bated breath till the recall is fixed.

I have the backing issue that is quite abrupt and not a slow brake. I had the dealer look at it and they said they move the harness and taped it but the problem didn't go away. I did have the auto braking on with an alert. just changed it so will see what happens. I have had this issue for several months and happens fairly frequently. I get two messages. "Auto braking active. Press brake to release." That goes away with in seconds and a second message comes up. "Press Brake and Switch to Release Parking Brake." I actually took a video of the dash when it happened once and showed dealer. Be aware that when the dealer move the harness they will declare the recall fixed as I think they are suppose to. My dealer said they would replace as a warranty when parts are available. He can actually see parts & # available in his system but can't even place an order at this point.

I have had a couple of instances separated by months when I could not shift out of park. This is an intermittent but nevertheless a documented precurser to the application of brakes at speed. The first time I took the car to the dealer, they had it for less that 30 minutes, told me "the recall was performed" ( yeah, right in that short a time) and cleared my VIN in the daabase.
I persisted, they have had my car today for 6 hours, They reported "We didn't see anything" so they did nothing to the braking system. Meanwhile I drive this moving disaster area with trepidation.
I think it is either time to start shouting on social media or introduce these jerks to my attorney.
I wish I had bought any other brand rather than this disaster from GM!!
My ten cents.
