April 4, 2025 Attempted Update

Kept getting a message all morning on my stops on the way to work (every time I put the vehicle in park) that an update was ready to install and that it would take 15 minutes. Since I was commuting, no dice. But I noticed each time I went to get out of the car, the radio would NOT shut off, even if the car was locked.

Finally get home, and go to install the update. Tried twice. Both times the bar got about 10% of the way (13 minutes remaining) and just inexplicably failed. Thought maybe it was an issue of being parked in my garage (not getting good enough OnStar signal), so I moved to the driveway and...

The car no longer tells me to update. I went into the menu and checked for updates, and it's telling me I'm current/up to date. The radio issue stopped, as well.

Anyone ever had this kind of experience before, and if so, did it recur? Did you have to take it to the dealer to get the update installed?

I got the same alerts as you this morning. I scheduled the update for 7pm, but when I got home I decided to just do it. I assumed the garage would be a problem, so I parked on the street and it was scheduled to start a few minutes later.

A few minutes after it started, I got an alert on the MyChev app saying it failed and I should try later. But I went out to the car and it was still in process, about half way through according to the display - 7 minutes to go. Will follow up here afterwards.

I mentioned my OTA to a friend who has a Mach E, and she says she gets them all the time and is sick of them. They change the UI and she has to learn how to do things again, because they aren't in the same place in the menus. Has anybody seen this with a GM update? I haven't even driven mine since the update. I am retired and don't drive every day.

UPDATE - After my initial post last week, nothing. Nada. Car said I was up to date:

These were from 4/4, the same day I had originally gotten the update message and made the original thread. It said I was up to date, but last update was from November '24.

Now, here we are five days later, and when I pull up to my charger at work this morning, I hear an alert ding when I put it in park, and the update message is back. So, when I get home tonight I will give it a go and see if it takes this time!

Let it update yesterday afternoon, and success.

Everything seems to have worked as it should, eventually. The original issue with it failing had to be poor satellite signal.

What I still don't know was why it stopped prompting me to update after two attempts, and then magically started again five days later.

All's well that ends well, I guess.

Maybe I just got lucky with my 2024 RS AWD. Every update has gone like clockwork. Got a notification for the newest one yesterday. Backed out of the garage into the driveway, pushed the "start update" button, and walked away. 15 minutes later, it was done. I have had zero issues with this EV, other than once in a while I get that "OH, CRAP, THE CAR'S GONNA EXPLODE" red car/exclamation point warning, but it drives perfectly. When I stop, go do my business and come back, the light is out and the car is fine. Chevrolet dealer shrugged their shoulders and said "No codes. You're good."

@iamfunei

You need to go to a dealer and have a Vehicle Wide Programming done, you're running very old software. There's a ton of changes in the newer software. This does fix a ton of software glitchiness, but it will take the dealer 8-10 hours to actually get all the updates done. Each module takes 30 mins - 1 hour to update...

One of the ways to tell is the combined heated / cooled seats button. On the latest software it is split into two separate buttons. This should've been done before they delivered the vehicle to you.

The security patch level should also be much newer, from memory mine is January 2025? I'll have to double check next time I drive it... when I first got it though, it did have that same July 2023 patch level as you.
